Annual online sales

Net sales grew almost every year from 2017/18 to 2025/26, with one dip in 2024/25, while cost per order stayed consistent throughout.

Source: Shopify net sales across five stores (DE, international, EN, FR and UK), USD and GBP at monthly average rates; paid media spend across all platforms. Financial years run March to February. 2017/18 predates Shopify and is as reported, with its cost per order the set target.

About Giesswein

Giesswein is a family business from Brixlegg in Tyrol. It started in 1954 making clothing from felted wool, and wool still runs through everything it makes, from house shoes to its Merino Runner sneakers.

In 2019 it sold a million pairs of wool shoes, which makes it one of the leading wool shoe makers in Europe.

The challenge

When we started working together, Giesswein was a small ecommerce business, and most of its revenue still came through trade partners.

The aim was to make selling direct a major part of the business. That meant scaling online quickly across several markets, while knowing exactly what each new order cost to win.

What we did

We ran the full strategy, with paid search and paid social as the main growth channels. Everything was built around one cost per order, so the whole team worked to a single shared number. Sales grew 30x and that number stayed consistent every year.

01

Strategy

We owned the digital growth plan end to end: where to invest, what to prioritise and how fast to scale spend. Targets are set per market and tightened as efficiency improves.

02

One cost per order

One target cost per order covers all paid media, measured against Shopify orders rather than what each ad platform claims. There's no fixed monthly budget. While orders land inside the target we keep spending, so growth is never held back by a cap.

03

Paid social

Meta finds new customers. Social starts broad and narrows down, putting Giesswein in front of people who weren't searching yet.

04

Paid search

Google captures the demand social creates. Search starts narrow and broadens out, and budget moves to whichever channel brings the total cost per order down.

05

SEO and content

Technical SEO kept every store fast, crawlable and properly indexed in each market. On top of that, we used search demand data to suggest what to write next: the products, questions and seasonal searches people were already looking for, so organic traffic grew alongside paid.

06

Real-time reporting

We built live customer reporting and dashboards on Shopify data, so both teams see sales, orders and cost per order by market as they happen. Success is measured on one shared set of numbers, and spend decisions are made in days, not at month end.
